Specialities

“The journey of postpartum is a process of knitting yourself back together. Remember you are a weaver, an artisan crafting the tapestry of your life. Thread by thread you are creating your life anew. It doesn't happen all at once. It is, after all, a creative endeavor, and art cannot be rushed,"

—Britta Bushnell

I’m a veteran birthworker who’s passionate about providing fun and relatable postnatal education and support to new families and other postpartum doulas. I provide an array of services, expertise and education for parents to help them make the MOST out of their postpartum journeys.

After the birth of my  first son in 2009, I fell in love with babywearing! It was the most single-most impactful skill that I learned as a new parent. In just a few short weeks of practicing with my baby carriers, I went from drowning in the waves of new motherhood to finally being able to catch my breath and feel like myself again. Knowing how to use baby carriers safely and comfortably gave me back the freedom I needed to get out of the house, connect with my community, and finally find the joy in raising my baby.

In 2010, I deepened my formal babywearing education and founded Caribou Baby and Wild Was Mama, Brooklyn’s beloved natural baby and maternity retail stores and class spaces. It was in this space that helped thousands of families gain the skills and confidence they needed to follow their intuition and care for themselves and their families with ease. As a longtime babywearing business owner, I’ve trained countless of my own staff in professional babywearing education, and continue to teach and mentor doulas and birthworkers in the postpartum space.

After selling my stores in 2018, I dove into one-on-one postpartum support full time. I now serve expecting and new families virtually and in-person across the five boroughs! I have an array of expertise in the postpartum space, and my services include postpartum doula work, babywearing classes and consultations, gentle sleep coaching, lactation counseling,  cloth diapering and elimination communication education, support group facilitation, doula mentorship and continuing education for doulas.

My Values

The journey of making and raising kids is an extraordinary adventure, and the most valuable lessons are learned through hands-on trail and error. Experience is a product of practice, not the pursuit of perfection! Teaching tangible, practical skills forms the bedrock of my approach; I am genuinely committed to helping parents and other birthworking professionals acquire the self-assurance and foundation necessary to navigate their daily lives or careers independently, without continuous and indefinite reliance on my support.

I'm a Southern California native who traded in sunshine for the vibrant, bustling streets of New York City, and never looked back. I'm determined to find the fun in the chaos of raising babies, which all starts with connection to people who believe in you. Call it radical, but I’m here to remind you that you are enough, yes you can, and you can also have fun while you do it! Childbirth and parenting feel most doable when we are connected with and supported by a compassionate team that actively listens to us. My clients also crave mentors who can guide them how to forge meaningful connections with their children and communities, and work hard to nurture secure attachments with their babies through gentle and respectful parenting approaches.

I am dedicated to fostering curiosity, openness, and vulnerability in my interactions with others. I acknowledge that I am only one human, with one, limited life experience, and as such, seek to model imperfection. It matters to me that my clients, students and colleagues feel safe and encouraged to share their authentic selves with me. I aim to listen without judgment, clarify to make sure I understand, and share my knowledge openly. I am committed to creating spaces where all individuals, regardless of their backgrounds, identities, or perspectives, feel welcome, valued, heard and celebrated. I welcome feedback that holds me accountable.
